
S&P500: Long-Term Cycles Adjustment on Quarterly Chart

At the beginning of 2025, we presented a chart of the S&P 500 dating back to 1950, illustrating various long-term cycles. We also shared insights on the reluctance of central bankers and even some climatology students—along with, perhaps, the broader academic community—to accept the concept of cycles. Referencing economist Joseph Schumpeter may risk labeling one as a relic of past economic thinking, especially when current mainstream perspectives—if not ideologies—suggest that advancements in AI will empower humanity to eliminate business cycle fluctuations. Only time will tell. In the meantime, market analysts must continue their efforts to understand and anticipate the ebbs and flows of financial data, such as the S&P 500 index, through cycles—a complex and, at times, costly undertaking. continue reading
